THE next Assassin’s Creed game, which is being developed under the codename ‘Rift’, is reportedly set in Baghdad.
The game rumored to be the next in the series has not been officially announced by developer Ubisoft.
The next official game will be under the temporary name Assassin’s Creed Infinity and will be a major multiplayer game set during different historical periods.
It will take away from the story and single-player focus of most games in the series.
According to a report by BloombergRift is being developed to help close the gap in Ubisoft’s release schedule.
It was reportedly originally created as an extension for: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla†
However, the team decided to switch gears and develop it as a separate, standalone game.
It will apparently be a smaller game than the recent titles in the series, focusing on stealth gameplay.
It was rumored that Rift would be set during the Aztec period in the country now known as Mexico.
However, this does not appear to be the case.
In a reddit thread, the Bloomberg reporter who broke the story on Rift, Jason Schreier, said this went against the information he was told.
Instead, he believes Rift will take place in Iraq’s capital Baghdad.
He didn’t comment on what period in history it would be, but says the Valhalla character will feature Basim, who lived in the 9th century.
Eurogamer shared similar information. It spoke to Walhalla producer José Araiza, who confirmed:
“Yes, the answer is yes. I won’t give you more details. But yes, you will definitely see more of Basim.”
Schreier, who claims to have sources working at Ubisoft, said he also has knowledge of two historical settings that will be featured in Infinity.
While he hasn’t shared any details, he claims none of the locations he knows of are based on Aztec history.
There’s no release window for Assassin’s Creed Infinity, but Ubisoft claims we’ll hear more information in September.
Likewise, we don’t know when Rift will go on sale, although it’s likely late 2022 or early 2023.
With great games like God of War Ragnarök, Bayonetta 3and pokemon Scarlet and Violet arrive in time for the holidays, Ubisoft may choose to release the game later.
