MANCHESTER UNITED legend Roy Keane is not backing his former employers to even come close to rivals City and Liverpool in the coming season.

The 50 years old believes Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp’s teams will once again compete alone for the Premier League title.

Keane recently stated how he thinks the Red Devils would not be a challenge for the title after they completed the sixth final campaign.

And he has now stated that Erik ten Hag‘s side still has a long way to go, as the Dutch gaffer appears to be overhauling his squad.

Keane told Sky Bet: “The manager will undoubtedly get money to spend, how he recruits.

“Four or five experienced players have left the club, which I think is a good thing.

“But I still don’t see” United compete with Liverpool and Manchester City, not just yet.”

The ‘Big Six’ have all been active this summer in a bid to close the gap, with Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal being praised for their smart signings.

Their transfer earnings have impressed Keane, although he doesn’t think it’s enough to alarm the Citizens and the Reds.

Antonio Conte has acquired Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Clement Lenglet, Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic for Spurs.

And Arsenal have signed Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos, Matt Turner and are now planning a dive for Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta

Discussing the trio of London clubs, Keane commented: “I don’t think they will close the gap.

“I think they will be a bit better. They have quality and the recruiting, but you can’t see beyond Liverpool and Man City.”

As for who will win the Premier League, Keane has backed City to claim the title for the third year in a row after they completed their takeover of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

He said: “Man City. Brilliant players, they have clearly improved with an incredible striker [Haaland] and they have one of the best managers ever in Pep.”
