Apple’s planned North Carolina campus will be located near Raleigh
North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park will eventually still be home to Apple’s new billion-dollar campus.
Apple’s move to North Carolina has been in the works for years first plans leaked in 2018. However, not much has changed since then and Apple is running out of time to claim its state incentives.
According to research of The News & Observer, Apple still plans to build the North Carolina campus, but the timeline is unknown. However, deadlines requiring Apple to hire a certain number of employees are fast approaching, so something needs to be done quickly.
If Apple doesn’t create at least 126 new jobs by the end of 2023, the company may lose its eligibility state incentives. Apple’s Job Development Investment Grant agreement with the state could net Apple more than $800 million in payroll tax credits by the year 2061 — if it meets its hiring goals.
“Perhaps the most important impact is that Apple is Apple,” said urban planning professor William Rohe. “Those who make the decision to come will greatly enhance the reputation of the RTP and the Research Triangle metropolitan area. It’s not just about Apple’s impact on Apple, it’s also about Apple’s spillover effects of attracting companies of a different caliber.”
The Research Triangle Park would be the largest research park in the United States, comprising 300 companies on 7,000 acres and 65,000 employees. Apple is expected to employ about 2,700 people in the industry by 2032.
While Apple will likely want to take advantage of tax breaks and other perks, other issues have cropped up since plans for the campus began. Renting from Apple has become more aware in some sectors, the pandemic has made more people want it work from homeand the idea of another big campus when apple park fight to fill the huge halls are all a difficult conundrum of what Apple has to deal with.
