ruce Springsteen has announced that he will be touring the UK for the first time in six years.
As part of the American icon’s 2023 tour, Springsteen, along with the E Street Band, will play in Edinburgh in May and Birmingham in June, for two dates in Hyde Park next year. UK Daylight Saving Time party in July.
And while the summer of 2023 may seem like an unbearably long time to wait, Springsteen fans should get organized now: Tickets go on sale next Thursday.
The 2023 tour is Springsteen’s first global excursion in six years. It will start in Florida in February next year and end in Monza, Italy at the end of July. His trip to the British capital will be the first time he’s back in town since he sold out Wembley Stadium in 2016.
Springsteen also did two “tours” in 2017-2018 and again in 2021, but these are more likely to be considered residencies. Springsteen on Broadway saw the musician set up shop first at the Walter Kerr Theater and then at the St. James Theatre New Yorkand he played as many as five shows a week.
Since his 2016 tour, the New Jersey singer has released two studio albums: 2019’s Western Stars and 2020’s Letter to You. He has also delivered two live albums: 2018’s Springsteen on Broadway and 2021’s The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts.
He was also featured on Bleachers’ 2020 single Chinatown, The Killers’ 2021 track Dustland and John Mellencamp’s 2021 Wasted Days.
Last month, Springsteen surprised fans by popping up during Paul McCartney‘s headliner set to Glastonbury† He played his 1985 song Glory Days from the album Born in the USA He also played The Beatles‘I Wanna Be Your Man with McCartney.
Now 72 years old, Springsteen is one of the founders of the heartland rock genre that is now one of America’s most recognizable. He has released 20 studio albums, awarded 20 Grammyshas sold over 135 million records and has been on 18 headlining tours, the first of which began in 1974.
In an October 2020 interview with the New York Times, Springsteen, who has been nicknamed “The Boss,” said, “I’m at a point in my performing and artistic life where I’ve never felt more vital.
“My band is at its best, and we’ve accumulated so much knowledge and craftsmanship about what we do that this was a time in my life where I said, ‘I want to use that as much as possible.'”
