Original article: June 8, 2022 (5:44 AM ET): We all know now that Samsung has given up on its notebook lineup in favor of foldable smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 was released last year with a custom S-pen, under-display camera, durable, water-resistant design, and a $ 200 price cut compared to its predecessor. It’s still one of the best foldable smartphones you can buy because it offers the longest software updates on the market, as well as all the upgrades it brings. But a year later, the time for a successor known as the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is approaching.

The upcoming Samsung foldable is not a stranger to us. Numerous leaks and rumors reveal important details about Samsung’s latest efforts in the foldable space. We’ll keep you up to date with what the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has to offer. We also have our own wishlist of improvements we would like to see in the new model. So, without any further effort, here’s everything you know about the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and what you want to see with the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4?

There is no doubt that Samsung will release Galaxy Z Fold 4 in 2022. The manufacturer has not officially confirmed the name of the phone, but there is nothing to suggest that it deviates from convention. Therefore, the folding device should have a ZFold 4 Monica. In addition, there is overwhelming evidence of the phone’s existence, including leaked specs and rendering from trusted sources. This will be explained later.

When is the release date of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 in flex mode.

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority

  • Samsung Galaxy Fold — March 20, 2019
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 — August 5, 2020
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 — August 11, 2021

The last two Galaxy Z Fold phones were announced in August. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 finally hit the shelves in September, but the Z Fold 3 was a little earlier and was piled up on the shelves at the end of August last year. The release date of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to be in a similar cycle.

One rumor from YouTuber and Leaker John Prosser Refers to the announcement on August 10, and pre-orders will be published on the same day. He further claims that the phone will go on sale from August 26th. This should be taken with just a little salt, but the August event seems at least commonplace. You can also expect the Galaxy Z Flip 4 to debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

What specifications and features does the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 have?

We don’t expect a major upgrade for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The leak suggests that the device may be gradually improved over the Z Fold 3. This is what we know.

design

Phone rendering leaked by a trusted tale OnLeaks, also known as Steve Hemmerstoffer.. You’ll notice that the alleged Galaxy Z Fold 4 hasn’t changed much in terms of core design (see image above). It is still folded inward and has a cover display on the outside. The biggest difference is on the back, with three individually protruding camera lenses instead of the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s oval camera housing. The setup is similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra setup.

The leaker reported that Samsung had slightly adjusted the dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. When unfolded, the phone is expected to be 155 x 130 x 7.1 mm (6.1 x 5.1 x 0.28 inches) in size compared to the current model. 158.2 x 128.1 x 6.4 mm (6.23 x 5.04 x 0.25 inch). This means that Samsung has shortened the height of the device and adjusted the length and width.

Tipster Ice universe It also claims that the creases on the Z Fold 4 are less noticeable than the Z Fold 3. This seems to be an area of logical improvement for Samsung, as the folds on foldable smartphones are still noticeable.

One of the earliest rumors about the phone came from Electricity.. The report claimed to have a dedicated S-pen slot like the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The stylus housing is definitely a step in the right direction, but I couldn’t find it in the leaked rendering. Hemmerstoffer didn’t mention the same in the phone description. Either the leaker is unaware of the new addition, or the Korean publication received incorrect information from the source.

Meanwhile, a report from Business Korea Samsung claimed to have considered adding an in-display fingerprint sensor to the Galaxy ZFold 4. However, the company clearly opposes the use of this technology and will instead stick to the side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

spec

First, don’t expect Samsung to bring a larger foldable. It doesn’t make sense to make it larger than the size the company already offers. Hemmerstoffer and Tarekomi’s Yogash Brar report that the phone has a 6.2-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal screen. The refresh rate for both panels is assumed to be 120Hz.

Galaxy Zfold 4 seems to skip Samsung’s 45W charging solution.

Brar’s phone spec sheet also includes the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, 12GB to 16GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB of storage. In other words, the top-end Z Fold 4 model can have more RAM than the top-end Z Fold 3, which offers 12GB of RAM in all variants.

Galaxy Zfold 4 seems to skip Samsung’s 45W charging solution. Multiple leaks suggest that the phone maintains the same 4,400mAh dual battery layout and 25W charging as its predecessor. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Samsung’s fastest charging options aren’t as great as the company thinks. In our tests, we found that charging 45W on the Galaxy S22 Plus and Ultra is slightly faster than Samsung’s 25W charging solution.

You may see some notable changes in the Z Fold 4’s camera settings. The device is expected to offer a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 12MP 3x telephoto lens. It’s similar to the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus, except for the high resolution telephoto camera.

The 16MP underdisplay selfie camera is expected to be placed on the inner screen, but the outer screen may have a 10MP shooter.

What is the price of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Open Screen Bench

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

  • Samsung Galaxy Fold — $ 1,980
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 — $ 1,999
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 — $ 1,799

According to rumors on the Korean site Naver, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 could be cheaper than the $ 1,799 Galaxy Z Fold 3.Display analyst Ross Youngs We also think Samsung may cut prices this time.

The Galaxy Z Fold’s range price cuts are welcomed by enthusiasts looking to get a foldable smartphone. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 turned things around last year with a $ 999 price tag. Samsung doesn’t expect the ZFold 4 to be priced in the $ 1,000 range, but a hundreds of dollars savings will definitely hurt, especially if the phone doesn’t get more upgrades than the current model. Will not be.

Samsung is reportedly aiming to ship 15 million foldable phones in 2022, with ZFlip 4 and Z Fold 4 leaning towards achieving this goal. By comparison, the company seems to have shipped 7.2 million units last year. This does not necessarily mean that ZFold 4 will be much cheaper. This could mean that Z Flip 4 is cheaper, or Samsung wants to achieve higher sales through more aggressive marketing. Still, it suggests that the company wants to make 2022 foldable parts more mainstream than before.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4: What We Want to See

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Open Display Screen In front of brick wall

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

It’s as good as Samsung’s current big foldable one, but the device isn’t without its flaws and potential improvements. This is what I want to see from the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Improve the selfie camera under the display

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 UDC Close-up

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 was Samsung’s first phone, with an under-display self-camera on the inner screen, but a traditional front-facing camera on the outer display. Perhaps, of course, I thought the underdisplay shooter would have taken muddy and noisy shots, even under ideal conditions.

You told us: You only need an underdisplay camera if the image quality is good

Not only the actual image quality, but also the foldable screen itself, the haze of this camera was noticeable. Therefore, this year Samsung hopes to deal with the cloudiness and image quality of the rumored underdisplay selfie camera.

Minimize display wrinkles

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority

One aspect that surprised many when the first foldable smartphones were announced was the folds on the fold line display. Samsung has done a solid job of reducing the 3rd generation foldable creases, but it’s still something you’ll notice today.

We hope that the display creases on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be further minimized, as rival collapsible objects such as OppoFindN and HonorMagic V seem to have made progress in this regard. I don’t think the creases will be completely gone yet, but there is certainly room for reduction.

Display options per screen

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 closed, indicating that the front screen is standing on the bench

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

Simply put, I would like to see the display options for each screen. For example, you rarely use auto-rotation on the outer screen, but you often use it on the main display. It’s also great if the refresh rate options vary from screen to screen, so you can run your smartphone screen at 60Hz and the foldable display as fast as possible (or vice versa).

Dustproof measurement

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

Unfortunately, the Z Fold 3 doesn’t have any kind of dust resistance. This means that you need to be careful in some situations. Samsung hopes to address this by providing some dust protection for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. We don’t expect top-level IP6x ratings, but IP5x ratings are great for collapsibles.

Folding screen Dex mode

Galaxy Z Fold 3 Camera Flex Mode

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority

Samsung’s Dex is one of the coolest experiences and provides a desktop-like complete user interface when connecting a flagship device to an external monitor. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 also has Dex, but I would like to make sure that the device itself has Dex. In this way, the foldable screen displays a full-fledged desktop UI, allowing you to treat your device like a kind of netbook.

Other Samsung coverage: Samsung One UI Android Skin Guide

However, Samsung has already enabled high-end tablets to run in Dex mode on the tablet screen itself, so it’s not unprecedented. Therefore, this is another feature to add to the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s wishlist, even if the foldable screen isn’t as vast as the flagship tablet display.
