TV host Michelle Dewberry destroys plans of the SNP government to provide emergency housing to Ukrainian refugees amid a Scottish homelessness crisis. The broadcaster argued that those in Scotland and across the UK must first and foremost be supported by the government, before the nation can support those facing global turmoil. The Scottish government labeled the initiative a “creative approach”, chartering a large cruise ship to house people displaced by the war in Ukraine† Ms Dewberry acknowledged the devastating global situation but wondered why similar measures had not been put in place to support citizens already in Scotland who are desperately struggling to find stable housing.
Speaking to GB News, Ms Dewberry began by outlining the worsening homelessness crisis in Scotland led by Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
The broadcaster said: “According to Shelter in Scotland, every 19 minutes a household becomes homeless in Scotland.
“There are already 11,804 children in households that have been assessed as homeless – you had almost 34,000 applications as homeless last year.
“I get it, people try to be nice, they try to raise their hands and say look at us, we’re so nice to everyone.
“For me, I really feel you need to help people in this country before you reach out to everyone everywhere.”
Ms Dewberry continued: “There are many problems in this world, there are many conflicts in this world, there is much displacement in this world.
“But unfortunately and deeply sadly there are a lot of problems in this country, people who need help in this country.
“I would like those people to be helped first and foremost.”
