Annie, the spoiled two-year-old alpaca, was rejected by her mother and had to be bottle-fed every two hours by her owner, Dannie Burns. Because of the strict feeding routine, Dannie took Annie everywhere.
She also lived at his home in Stirling, Scotland, with his three dogs and two cats.
However, Annie caused too much trouble and now sleeps on the porch.
Annie is currently expecting her own baby and Dannie isn’t sure how she will get to motherhood as she doesn’t mix with the herd of 75 alpacas that roam the fields.
She prefers to socialize with the three Labradoodle dogs and believes she is one of them.
Annie has been evicted after chewing through cables, looting profiteroles at Christmas and causing trouble by opening doors with her mouth.
But she loves to relax during car rides in the back of the Opel Zafira she bought to house her – which Dannie says is now going for scrap instead of being sold.
Annie folds her legs under her in the back seat like a camel and doesn’t need a blanket to make her comfortable.
She likes to stretch her head out the window and has recently charmed traffic cops who stopped to take a picture with her.
Dad-of-three Dannie said: “Annie was rejected by her mother. She was in our house for six months and was bottle fed every two hours.
“She ate everything – toy soldiers, ribbons, bits of plastic. She swallows them – she’s a nightmare.
“She now sleeps on the porch. She has been with us for the past two Christmas days, but she is very naughty, she ate profiteroles and took lettuce out of the bowl.
“We hope she goes back with the herd as soon as she has her baby. She doesn’t want anything to do with the other alpacas, she will hide if she sees them.
“She needed bottle-feeding every two hours, all through the night, like a newborn.
“We bought the car because she went everywhere with us. We leave the back door open and she jumps in the back.
“It was one of those situations that just happened, I had to take her everywhere.
“That’s what it was bought especially for.”
Annie is about six feet tall and about the same size as a Saint Bernard Sheepdog.
She lives on a diet of grains, barley, and oats, as well as other foods she scavenges.
Annie leads a luxurious life as a pet and wanders around doing what she wants.
Dannie, also a grandfather of four, said: “I used to find her in the house looking out the window at the other alpacas.
“She has a superiority complex over other alpacas.
“She roams around with the dogs and has learned to open the door handles with her mouth.”
He first bought two alpacas on a whim 14 years ago after losing his job, and paid cash after driving a van to Derby to pick them up.
Dannie described keeping them as an “addiction” and now has ten employees at the Alpaca Trekking Center in Stirling looking after cows, sheep and even a golden eagle.
He said that Annie isn’t as fussy as a puppy to chew, but that she has a penchant for used gum and chocolate.
Dannie said: “She likes gum, chocolate, apples, bananas.
“She chews on cables — they don’t have front teeth on the top, but they’re pretty sharp on the back.
“It’s not as bad as having a puppy chewing on your shoes.”
