9241 new Covid cases; four more dead in South

There are 9,241 new cases of Covid-19 in the community today and 29 more have died from the disease, including four in the south.

The Ministry of Health says that 761 people with Covid are in hospital, 15 of whom are in the ICU.

The deaths reported today occurred in the past 29 days, bringing the pandemic total to 1,805. The seven-day moving average of reported deaths is 20.

Four of these deaths were in the southern DHB area. Of the others, three were from the Auckland area, four from Waikato, two from Bay of Plenty, three from Lakes, two from Hawke’s Bay, two from MidCentral, two from the Wellington area, three from Nelson Marlborough and four were from Canterbury/ west coast.

Two people were in their 60s, three were in their 70s, 16 were in their 80s and eight were over 90. Nineteen were women and 10 were men.

The seven-day moving average of the number of community cases today is 9984 – this time last week it was 8687.

The total number of new cases today is a slight decrease after several days in a row from more than 10,000 cases.

Health officials have said the actual number of daily case numbers could even be twice as high as people either fail to test for Covid-19 despite being sick or test and fail to report positive.
