Penny Mourdant has fired a jab at her Tory rivals, saying: “There’s a reason I win every poll”.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Ms. Mordaunt asked about attacks from Lord David Frost and other Conservatives.
She said: “I think it’s good that we’re being scrutinized. I think that’s what the public expects. And I understand why people do this kind of black ops operational stuff.
“But really, that’s not the campaign I’m running. I do not do that. People can see that I don’t do that to my opponents.”
“I don’t think it’s helpful to our goal of winning a general election to do these things. I am very focused on a positive campaign.
“I have a lot of experience to get us out of the EU. I was on the Joint Withdrawal Agreement Committee longer than Frost and longer than Gove. And I have always worked hard and campaigned to deliver on the promise of Brexit.”
When asked if she was a “garbage-filled minister”, the candidate added: “No. People look at my file and people will have seen me at the shipping box and people know who I am.
“That’s why I get support from our entire party and that’s why I’m at the top of every poll in the country.”
