Two men have been arrested in connection with a series of robberies on 7-Elevens in Southern California that left two dead and three injured.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer and the Brea, Santa Ana, La Habra and Riverside police chiefs met for a news conference later Friday night to discuss the arrests of 20-year-old Malik Patt and 44-year-old Jason Payne. , who, according to Mr Spitzer, has perpetrated a “reign of terror” in the region.
Both Mr. Patt and Mr. Payne live in the Los Angeles area, and law enforcement officials suggested Friday that they could face charges for other crimes committed in the region this week.
Police in the area had tried to locate a gunman suspected of six robberies. It is currently unknown whether that person has been arrested or who the second person arrested is.
The robberies all took place on July 11 — or 7/11, the company’s birthday — in Brea, Santa Ana, Ontario, Upland, Riverside and La Habra over a five-hour period.
Police in some of the affected municipalities said in the wake of the attack they believe all the robberies were committed by the same person. It is not yet known what prompted the attacks or whether the date had any special significance.

The worst violence occurred in Brea, where 40-year-old clerk Matthew Hirsch was shot dead, and Santa Ana, where 24-year-old Matthew Rule was murdered in the store’s parking lot.
A customer was also shot in the head in the Riverside robbery, while two people were shot dead in the La Habra robbery.
The series of attacks caused such alarm that the parent company of 7-Eleven asked stores in the Los Angeles area to close early that evening.

The investigation into the attacks, spanning multiple jurisdictions, has been ongoing throughout the week.
On Wednesday, 7-Eleven offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case, although it’s not clear whether Friday’s arrests have anything to do with the prize money being offered.
