LOVE Island’s infamous Movie Night always brings in the drama — and plenty of viewer complaints.
Last season, Faye Winter’s treatment from boyfriend Teddy Soares received the most Ofcom complaints in series history with a record 25,000 complaints – but it’s not the only moment when fans pick up their phones furiously.
From Maura Higgins clamber over Tommy Fury as if he were a fleshy climbing frame too poor Dani Dyer sobbing, there has been a lot of outrage-generating drama.
And the 2022 series has received more than 700 complaints so far.
Here we look back at the villa’s most lamented moments of all time…
The Fallout of Casa Amor by Curtis Pritchard
Clumsy Curtis Pritchard unleashed all kinds of hell on Amy Hart in 2019 when their adorable relationship turned into a car accident.
The flight attendant intended to tell Curtis… she had fallen in love with him after being reunited for the first time since Casa Amor.
But he confessed that he had instead tried to chase the beautiful Jourdan – who turned him down. Oh mate.
Amy was devastated and so were many viewers – with 314 complaints filed with the TV watchdog.
Finn’s ‘Fake News’ headline
In one of the more brutal rounds on Love Island, couples get to see headlines from articles about them.
However, as a semi-professional soccer take on Donald Trump, Finn Tapp had to cry “fake news” after one was shown suggesting that his head was turned in Casa Amor.
In fact, he was as good as gold, but Paige Turley believed the article (which, we should add, was not from The Sun).
Needless to say, chaos and accusations ensued and 544 people complained.
Gemma and Davide’s age difference snog
Gemma Owen and Davide Sanclimenti caused a stir early on in this series when they shared a kiss — with viewers outraged at their eight age difference.
The hug between the 19-year-old and the 27-year-old Italian raised 200 Ofcom complaints.
On the second day at the villa, the couple shared a kiss during one of the challenges, leaving viewers unhappy.
But Ofcom confirmed they were not investigating the incident.
The Kiss of Georgia Steele and Jack Fowler
With 655 complaints, Georgia Steel and Jack Fowler kissed after their date.
Laura hounded her and accused her of turning an innocent kiss on the cheek into something far more stupid.
The clip was played over and over, VAR style, to find out who was to blame after Georgia denied making a move.
Laura was furious: “My best buddy went behind my back and tried to kiss the man I’m in a relationship with.”
Maura jumps Tommy
No-nonsense Maura may be best friends with Tommy’s friend Molly-Mae Hague, but in 2019 she was all over him like a duvet on a cold night.
The 30-year-old Irish model The boxer’s intense pursuit outraged fans when she was seen straddling and trying to kiss him.
He was heard to say no and try to avoid the kiss, with one viewer tweeting, “Maura is like a fucking predator. Forcing herself on Tommy like that is wrong.”
In the end, 709 people complained – but Tommy was not one of them and they became very good friends.
Joe and Lucy ‘controlling’ row
Joe Garratt was forced to defend himself after telling Lucie he felt uncomfortable about her “strange” and “disrespectful” friendship with Tommy Fury (him again!)
He was accused of mistreating her, but later told The Sun: “I have not manipulated or abused her.
“I’m gutted that it was conceived that way, because it wasn’t like that at all.”
The moment sparked more than 600 Ofcom complaints with people objecting to Joe and other islanders’ treatment of the surfer.
Dani Dyer’s Tears Over ‘cheating’ Jack
Love Island bosses found themselves on the receiving end of some serious anger from the Dani Dyer fan club in 2018.
Producers thought it would be great to show her a clip of boyfriend Jack Fincham looking like his head was turned by an ex.
Of course there was nothing wrong and if Dani burst into tears.
Meanwhile, 2,644 people complained to Ofcom that this kind of behavior wasn’t their type at all on paper – making Love Island the most complaining about the moment.
Faye Winter makes fun of Teddy
In August 2021, Love Island was hit with a record 24,763 Ofcom complaints from fans outraged by Faye’s “toxic” meltdown.
Faye went nuts on last year’s movie night when a clip was shown of partner Teddy admitting that he found another islander attractive.
The incident that saw Faye swear and scream in partner teddy Soare’s face, is the most complained about moment in the history of the show.
Viewers labeled the awkward collision “toxic” and “hard to watch.”
