Emma Raducanu advanced to the second round of Wimbledon after defeating Alison van Utvank.

Having made her center court debut, the 19-year-old sealed a 6-4 6-4 victory over the world no 46 on Monday night.

Raducanu, a 10-seed, saw a minor injury pulled from Nottingham just eight minutes after the opening round after a side strain hit earlier this month, interrupting the preparation of the glass court.

She then missed in Eastbourne, where she was injured for a long time, even though she played in a draw last Friday.

However, the current US Open champion seemed to completely shake off the knock when he showed a resilient performance to move on to the next round at SW19.

A double failure from Utvank allowed Briton to secure the first break in the contest in the middle of the opening set.

After showing her grit in a tense exchange, Raducanu greatly pleased the audience at home by sealing the opening set shortly after Van Witvank returned her to the net.

The Belgians started the second set strongly, defeating their opponent’s serve and moving to a 3-1 lead with a malicious forehand.

With more unforced errors, Raducanu came back again, but soon returned to gain momentum and control the second set again.

With the crowd behind her, Raducanu confidently sealed the victory.

Early in the afternoon, Cameron Norrie became the first home player to secure victory after seeing off Pablo Andujar of Spain.

Britain’s 1st place men secured 6-0 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 during the start of the rain on the first day.

Norrie will face another Spaniard at Haumemunal on Wednesday.
