Passengers traveling from Paddington station in London have been stranded after several trains were delayed or even cancelled. The 25°C heat has led some passengers to say the station felt like a “greenhouse”.
National Rail shows eight trains canceled or delayed, a signal failure between Southall and Paddington has caused even more chaos.
The heat in the station is adding to the misery and passengers have told MyLondon they feel “uncomfortable” and described the scene as “chaotic”.
The editor of MyLondon City Hall, Josiah Mortimer, is currently touring the station.
He told the news site: “Paddington is a greenhouse and a lot of people are melting into it. Trains have been delayed or canceled and people are huddled around the billboards and gates.
“Almost no communication about what is going on, so there are a lot of frustrated people trying desperately to leave the capital during the heat wave.”
He added that Britain’s infrastructure could not handle the heat and blamed the high temperatures for the cancellations and delays.
There are concerns that passengers traveling to Heathrow may miss their flight as three out of four trains to the airport have been cancelled.
Recent reports of long waits at Heathrow add to concerns about holidaymakers’ plans.
Mr Mortimer added: “I have now managed to get on my train – 15 minutes late which is very lucky.
“Pity the poor soul whose train at Heathrow was cancelled.”
Updates for those planning to travel through the station can be found here.
National Rail has since updated that signal failure between Southall and Paddington station has been resolved. The outage affected the Heathrow Express train to Heathrow Terminal 5.
