MESSAGE TO THE STAFF OF THE INEC CHAIRMAN
Election of Governorship of Osun . State
July 16, 2022
Exactly 27 days ago, we held and concluded the Ekiti governorship election, which was widely regarded as free, fair, credible and inclusive. The achievement was thankfully a continuation of the previous successes achieved in Edo and Ondo States on September 15 and October 10, 2020 and in Anambra State on November 6, 2021. The sheer determination, resilience and competence displayed by all of you, our members of staff, has enabled the Commission to achieve these lofty objectives.
As you know, Osun state governor elections will be held on Saturday. I have assured our stakeholders and the people of Osun State that the Commission will not do anything to the advantage or disadvantage of any political party or candidate. We have arranged the election well. We promised a level playing field for everyone. The security services have assured us of safety.
The people of Osun state and the Nigerians will understandably hold us to our promise on Election Day. They will observe our attitudes and behavior from the opening to the closing of the polls. In particular, they will observe our management of election results and measure compliance with existing laws at each stage of the electoral process.
I appeal to you to uphold our Code of Conduct, demonstrate your usual sense of commitment and professionalism, stay above the board and firmly resist unethical behavior. You must also abide by the oath of neutrality that we have all signed. I am confident in your ability to consolidate our recent successes.
Thanks for all your efforts.
Prof. dr. Mahmood Yakubu
