Big hole to be filled at Canterbury Golf

Canterbury Golf is looking for a new general manager after Grant Lewis moves to the national body.

Lewis, who has managed Canterbury Golf for the past 13 years, will start as National Sector Support Manager of Golf NZ this month.

Canterbury Golf has appointed Mike Godinet as interim managing director until the end of March as the organization completes its recruitment process.

Godinet has previously served and chaired several committees of the organization and has experience in managing and marketing golf events.

He owns and operates Golf Management and Marketing, a company that specializes in organizing both professional and amateur events, as well as corporate and charity days.

Godinet looks forward to working with staff on “delivering the many comprehensive programs they offer to golfers in Canterbury.”

He will also “provide clear and regular communications to the 37 member golf clubs and their 13,000 members.”

Lewis took his leave at a rally last month, where he spoke of his love for the sport and his desire to continue to contribute at a national level.

He was thanked by Canterbury President Mike Rondel and Executive Committee member Peter MacDonald and presented with a sculpted statue and a signed copy of Sir Bob Charles’s book.

In his new role he will still be based in Christchurch but will work with clubs and the golf industry across the country.
