London: Investigation into murder while 19-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the neck in Beckenham Park

A

teen dies after stabbing in neck in south London park.

The 19-year-old man was attacked while sitting in a parked car car at 4:40am on Saturday in historic Beckenham Place Park, the largest green space in Lewisham.

The police were called ten minutes later when the victim presented himself herself in a hospital in South London.

There he later died of his horrific neck injury. Detectives have launched a murder investigation and are investigating his next of kin.

A crime scene remains in place as an investigation continues, led by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

Chief Inspector Chris Wood said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with the young man’s friends and family at this incredibly difficult time.

“I want to reassure them and the wider community that we are working around the clock to determine exactly what happened.

“It is possible that the events surrounding this incident were captured on doorbell or dashcam footage. I would urge everyone in Beckenham Hill Road and the surrounding streets to check their devices for footage.

“We especially want to track down everyone who was in the park at the time.

“Please watch and call us if you have any footage of vehicles or people behaving suspiciously in the area. It is vital that we establish what happened to this young man.”

No arrests have been made and the investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

Lewisham Council warned on social media: “If you plan to go to… Beckenham Place Park Please note that the car park is currently CLOSED. You will have to find alternative ways to get there. We will notify you if this changes.”
