On Tuesdays the Austin American statesman have released parts of the 77-minute surveillance video they received from Robb Elementary School on the day of the Uvalde shooting. However, this decision did not sit well with “The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg.
Goldberg went after the newspaper because it leaked it earlier than Uvalde city officials planned to release the video on Sunday.
“This was released, but the newspaper is defending their decision. I find it indefensible. My apologies. You forgot that all those sounds are people’s children, and you didn’t have to do this,” Goldberg said, per Mediate.
She continued by calling the decision “indefensible” and “ill-considered” for the… Statesman to have shared the video before the officials, allowing the victims to relive that day more now that it is on television.
“They were supposed to see this video on Sunday. You didn’t have to release and leak this video. I think it’s terrible, and you should be ashamed to do that, to be Thoughtful of the parents who have to relive this every day because it’s on television!” Goldberg added.
“Every time you turn around, you have to see it, you know! And I don’t know if you guys have kids at that newspaper, but shame on you! I know it means nothing to me, but shame on you!”
Since the newspaper published the leaked four-minute clip, it had sparked outrage as many now get a picture of how authorities acted on that day when 19 children and two adults died.
