There are 6,223 new cases of Covid-19 in the community today and 22 more people have died from the virus.
The 22 people died in the past four days, the health ministry said.
There are 733 people in hospital with the virus, 16 of whom are in intensive care.
The seven-day moving average of community cases cases today is 9,803, the ministry reported.
Yesterday there were 9,241 community cases, 761 hospitalizations and 29 deaths. The deaths occurred in the past 29 days.
While today’s numbers are lower than yesterday’s, over the past week the daily number of new cases has regularly exceeded 10,000.
The ministry said today it is “closely monitoring” the continued increase in positive cases and hospital admissions.
It said the number of cases, deaths and hospitalizations “emphasize the importance of everyone doing the basics right” to help prevent infection and serious illness.

Covid deaths
Of the deaths reported today, five were from the Auckland area, two from Waikato, one from Lakes, two from Hawke’s Bay, one from Taranaki, three from Whanganui, two from MidCentral, one from the Wellington area, three from Canterbury/West Coast and two came from the south.
Two people were in their forties, one was in their fifties, one was in their sixties, five were in their seventies, eight were in their eighties, and five were over 90. Ten were women and 12 were men.
Today’s reported deaths bring the pandemic total to 1,827, and the seven-day moving average of reported deaths is 22.
