Firefighters had the fire under control by 12:30 p.m., with crews from Clapham, West Norwood, Peckham, Old Kent Road, Chelsea and surrounding fire stations.
“The fire near Brixton Market is now under control, but firefighters will remain on site all night,” the London Fire Brigade wrote on Twitter.
“There are no reports from those involved at this stage.”
Labor MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, Helen Hayes, describes the fire scenes as “truly shocking”.
