Suspected pedophile wanted in Poland is evicted from Travelodge in Bedford, where he lived for three months while fighting extradition

  • The man stayed for months in the budget hotel used by families with children
  • He was only evicted when a journalist contacted the chain about his situation
  • Another suspected criminal was also found while staying at Travelodge in London
  • Both had been allowed by magistrates to stay with them while fighting extradition

A suspected pedophile wanted in Poland has been evicted from a Travelodge where he has lived for the past three months while battling extradition charges.

The retiree spent months in one of the chain’s hotels in Bedford, which was simultaneously used by families with children who did not know he was there.

The man is reportedly wanted by police in the Eastern European country that are investigating child sexual abuse.

However, he is fighting extradition charges and after appearing before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court, he was released on bail and allowed to continue living with the chain.

A second man fighting extradition to Romania, where he is wanted on suspicion of embezzlement, was also allowed to stay at a Travelodge in London.

But both have now been removed after the Sunday Express contacted the budget hotel chain about it.

In a statement to the newspaper, Travelodge said staff were completely unaware that the Polish man was a suspected pedophile when he was allowed to stay for three months.

A spokesperson for the chain says: ‘The safety of our customers and employees is of paramount importance to us.

“We can confirm that we have not entered into any agreements to provide lodging on bail and that these two individuals are no longer staying at our hotels.

“We do work with a number of third parties and have stipulated that we do not accept bookings from persons who are allegedly sex offenders or pedophiles.”

According to the Sunday Express, the suspected pedophile was allowed to stay at the hotel after being arrested in September 2021 under a European arrest warrant.

He moved to the Travelodge after his conditional bail was changed to say he would be staying at the hotel in April.

The other man, who is in his thirties, was placed in a London hotel after his arrest last year.

He was initially allowed to reside at an address in the city before the court changed it to the Travelodge in London Docklands between April and May.

Earlier this month, a judge said he could not be extradited to Romania, but his bail was extended pending whether the Eastern European country would appeal the decision.

A Bedford Borough Council spokesperson told the newspaper: ‘We carry out checks with the police before placing anyone in temporary housing and if anyone has a criminal conviction they would be accommodated appropriately.

“We wouldn’t knowingly put a convicted sex offender in a hotel.”
