A wildlife-loving biochemist has created a ‘jungle’ in his backyard after his fear of flying kept him from visiting tropical rainforests.
dr. Simon Olpin, 70, will bask in the cool shade of his yard as people prepare for blistering record temperatures this week.
dr. Olpin, 70, has been passionate about nature since childhood, but his fear of flying never made him travel the world and see jungles.
So the clinic’s clinical biochemist brought the jungle to his suburban Sheffield garden after planting his first “pot” tree in 1987.
Since then, his 8,000-square-foot tropical paradise has grown to more than 100 species of plants, with 25-foot-tall palm trees towering over the sprawling garden.
