Comedian Craig Robinson says he is safe after being evacuated from a North Carolina comedy club on Saturday following a suspect with a gun.
The Killing and Office star was said to be performing at the venue when a man entered the building around 9 p.m. and brandished a gun, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Station. Those present in the room were evacuated, after which the suspect fired his weapon.
The suspect was arrested and no one was injured, authorities said. The Hollywood Reporter has contacted police for further comment.
In a message posted on Instagram on Sunday afternoon, Robinson expressed his gratitude to the venue and local authorities for their action. “Thank you to the security and staff at The Comedy Sone for getting us to safety quickly. Thank you everyone for the massive support and get well wishes. Thank you CMPD for quick action and for apprehending the shooter. Hopefully he gets the help he needs.”
“Thank God no one was hurt,” he ended his message. “Please stay safe everyone.”
In a statement to THR, The Comedy Zone also thanked its employees who “came into action immediately and got everyone safely out of the building,” as well as the CMPD for “their prompt response and peaceful resolution of the situation.” The venue also confirmed it was canceling both of Robinson’s scheduled shows for Sunday night and refunding those with tickets to Saturday night’s 9:45 PM set.
“The Comedy Zone is going to take a breather, which is why tonight’s show has been canceled,” the statement said. “We look forward to laughing with you later this week.”
In the video he shared Saturday night on Instagram and of the audience at a Big Time Rush concert at a nearby venue, Robinson confirmed he was “safe.”
“It was an active shooter in the comedy club, so they moved us here as a concert and it’s Big Time Rush,” he explained. “We had to run here.”
“It’s cool. We cool. It was just wild. I was in a green room and she? [were] like, ‘Everybody out,'” he said later in the video. “It was definitely a moment.”
