PAIGE SPIRANAC took to Twitter after Cameron Smith won The Open to congratulate him and himself.
Spiranac was especially happy with Smith’s “historic victory” because she chose him as the outright winner on Thursday.
And the Aussie star proved the former professional golfer was right when a streak of five birdies on the back nine saw him win. Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young.
Spiranac tweeted: “Congratulations to Cam Smith on a historic win. And congratulations to myself for choosing him to win.”
The American Golfer added: “This Open was incredible. One for the ages.
“That’s why we watch and love the game. The passion these guys have to win is what it’s all about. Not about money.”
British superstar McIlroy saw his major drought extend into a ninth year in St Andrews.
Smith, who became the first Australian to win The Open in 28 years, burst into tears when he spoke of his historic victory.
The 28-year-old said: “I’m going to fall apart, I know.
“I want to thank my team for all the hard work we’ve put in over the years.
“This one definitely makes it worth it. Thanks to the R&A, fantastic week, St Andrews links, the volunteers and the superintendent and everyone involved.
“It was great out there. The course was how an Open Championship should be played. It was just unreal. Thank you so much guys.
“For the fans, I had a lot of support out there. Especially the Aussie guys, you guys kept me going. It seemed like there were a lot of you. This one is for Aus! Thanks guys.

“It’s unreal. This place is so cool and to have the 150th Open here and walk away with the win is something I’ve dreamed of. I didn’t know I’d get this far. It’s amazing.
“I am lost for words. It’s unreal to look at the names on this trophy and add mine is unreal.
