Avery Baker (Omar Lye-Fook) is causing quite the stir when he makes his EastEnders debut next week and finds himself on the wrong side of many of the locals in the process.
The newcomer rocks in Walford in style and arrives in his flash car. He collides with the market merchants and – realizing that he has been misled with everyone – he plans a meeting in the pub.
Mitch (Roger Griffiths), meanwhile, isn’t interested in celebrating his birthday, but Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) drags him to The Vic for a drink, but gets a huge shock when he finds Avery – Mitch’s estranged big brother !
The question is, what exactly brought Avery to Albert Square?
“He definitely wants to heal old wounds, that’s what he’s there for,” explains actor Omar Lye-Fook.
‘In their first scene, when he arrives at the Square, he makes a big impression with some traders who are all building up to meeting his brother.
“He wants to get Mitch’s attention, not in a way that causes trouble. He is sensitive to the fact that Mitch has lost his daughter and he wasn’t there for him at the time.
“He hopes Mitch doesn’t react a certain way, but he does and he doesn’t blame him. Even though the brothers have had problems in the past, Mitch is still his brother.
“They’ve always overcome their differences, even though Mitch fights it. Avery continues to stare at him, hoping that one day he will break through those barriers.”
Will Avery be able to get through to Mitch? Or is there too much water under the bridge? Time will tell!
