PETE Davidson’s heavy PDA with Chase Sui Wonders may be for show, but that doesn’t mean the pair aren’t really into each other.
Body language expert Patti Wood says Chase, 26, seems intent on showing others that she and Pete, 29, have a “great romantic relationship” — but he’s having fun and not resisting her touch.
Pete — whose roster of old flames includes Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and Kaia Gerber — was first rumored to be dating Chase back in December.
Since then, there have been several occasions when eyewitnesses caught them packing on the PDA, including at dinner in Brooklyn on Jan. 9 and at Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles on Jan. 19.
And now the Bodies Bodies Bodies costars are vacationing together in Hawaii and have been spotted getting touchy and cuddling in multiple locations.
On Monday, they were caught walking hand in hand on the beach, and Chase even landed on Pete’s lap for a kiss.
Patty Woodauthor of Snap: Make the most of first impressions, body language, and charismasaid the kiss was played to seem super passionate – but that wasn’t really the case.
Analyzing photos from the trip, Wood said Chase does most of the “work” to project the image of a “strongly romantic couple”, even though they may just be having fun at the moment.
But as she initiates that extra contact and draws him in for the cameras, Wood pointed out that Pete offers no resistance – and seems “genuinely happy” with her.
“Not many people kiss in public like that,” Wood said. “And this is a very intimate kiss because she has one leg between his legs. And she’s on his lap.
“Even though we think, ‘Oh, she’s on his lap, that’s so feminine and romantic’ — she has a lot of control.”
There are also some mixed messages indicating that this kiss wasn’t as much of a spur of the moment passionate display as it seemed.
“So you see this very sexually, between the legs, all wrapped up [pose] – but she just gently puts her hand on his knee. And her right hand, the fingers are straight and also relaxed.
“So I think it’s kind of a fake passionate kiss, and pretending it’s super, super passionate, when it’s just a nice kiss.
“And I think there’s some acting… also because she’s got her hat over the kiss.”
Wood said other photos full of PDAs show a similar dynamic — Chase initiates the PDA, but Pete happily agrees.
In one, Chase had her hand in Pete’s shirt as they walked the beach.
“She wants to sit on his skin, which is intimate and very sexy and what she would normally do in the house under your husband’s pajamas.
“You don’t necessarily have to touch the skin with your hand under the shirt in public. It’s usually done like after you make love in the morning. That kind of intimacy.”
Though Pete’s hands were full and he didn’t return the touch, “he has a big, beautiful smile that lifts his face.”
Chase also initiated “intimate touch” to speak close into his ear.
“She could probably talk [out loud]”It’s not a busy beach, but she wants to pull it in and he’s fine with being pulled in,” Wood said.
Overall, Patti said she thinks Chase wants everyone to learn about it together and that Pete is having a good time.
“He’s fun and playful. She says, ‘I want everyone to know we’re a couple, I want people to think we’re a real couple.’
“And he seems genuinely happy. He’s having a great time. There’s no artifice on his part and he’s not resisting. He’s just having a great time.”
Only time will tell if this turns into a long-term relationship, but Wood admitted she sees more “matching” between Pete and Chase than Pete and his previous girlfriends.
“They both kind of have this dorky, ‘I don’t care what I look like’ attitude,” she said.
They also mirror each other while walking, showing “a nice kind of fun, funky, nerdy energy around them”.
“My overall impression is that they suit and reflect that kind of playful dorkiness and casual way of being…but I think she does more work to make them look like a couple.”
Earlier Michelle Bell, founder of Cosmic Fusion, already predicted that Pete and Chase are said to have a “sparkling attraction”. but she would “get frustrated with his introversion.”
