According to the Ministry of Health, the surge in cases in today’s new community, Covid-19, is not uncommon, and has increased after a long weekend.

Today, there are 8028 new community cases of the virus, and an additional 16 people have died of the disease.

Covid has 383 inpatients, seven of whom are in the ICU.

Yesterday, the ministry reported 5549 new cases.

The 7-day moving average of today’s community cases was 5480 and last Tuesday was 4878.

The ministry said the increase in the number of cases today is “not uncommon after a long weekend. It will take longer before we can determine if this is part of the trend.”

Today, there are 434 to 733 new cases yesterday in the southern region, and 23 people in the southern region are infected with the same number of viruses as yesterday.

COVID fatalities

The ministry said all 16 deaths reported today have occurred within the last seven days.

The total number of publicly reported deaths is 1488, and the 7-day moving average of reported deaths is 12.

One of the dead was in the southern DHB area. Of the others, four were in the Auckland region, two in Waikato, two in Hawke’s Bay, one in Midcentral, two in Taranaki, one in Wairarapa, one in Wellington, and two in Canterbury.

One was 10 to 19 years old, 3 were in their 70s, 6 were in their 80s, and 6 were over 90 years old. Eleven were men and five were women.
