Lorraine Kelly didn’t hold back from mocking Prince Andrew on his infamous “I can’t sweat” comments amid the current heat wave.
Back in 2019, a key moment out The Duke of York’s interview with Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis claiming that he “doesn’t sweat.”
As temperatures in the UK are set to hit their highest ever, with forecasts of 40°C for the first time ever, Lorraine didn’t hold back from a quick joke about Prince Andrew’s claims.
The ITV presenter quipped: ‘God love him in this heat.’
The comments come later The interview with Prince Andrew in 2019where Maitlis had questioned him about claims he slept with Virginia Giuffre when she was 17.
The Newsnight presenter stressed that Guiffre had been “very specific” about meeting Andrew at the Tramp nightclub on March 10, 2001, claiming the Duke was “sweating excessively”.
But the Duke said there was a “minor problem” with that story, as he wouldn’t be able to perspire at the time.
During the interview, he claimed, “I have a peculiar medical condition, which is that I wasn’t sweating or was not sweating at the time.
“…I wasn’t sweating at the time because during the Falklands War I had an overdose of adrenaline when I was shot at and I…it was just almost impossible for me to sweat.”
Lorraine had proposed to former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister when she made the joke, with the pair discussing that the car accident interview will be made into a movie.
Based on McAlister’s book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews, the upcoming movie will focus on how the Beeb landed their explosive chat with the disgraced royal.
Scoop will also reportedly discuss the Queen’s third eldest child’s friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epsteinwhich had largely been the subject of the interview in 2019.
