Some snow in the south of Canterbury, Wales

Black ice may be a concern for Canterbury drivers as it is expected to frost overnight.
Warnings will be issued after an overnight snowfall on the Canterbury Plateau throughout Monday and today.

MetService issued a heavy snow clock on the Canterbury Plateau south of Culverden from 8 pm today to 1 pm tomorrow.

Temperatures in the region are expected to plummet tonight and tomorrow morning, -1 ° C in Christchurch, -2 ° C in Mount Cook, and -3 ° C in Twizel and Omarama.

It was snowing on State Highway 73 between Springfield and Arthur’s Pass, so chains were essential to the road until it was accessible later this morning. Castle Hill residents were blocked after the road was closed overnight.

MetService predicted heavy snowfall over 500m and snow duration up to 400m.

Meanwhile, the road snow warnings for Arthur’s Pass, Lewis Pass (SH7), Porters Pass (SH73), and Lindis Pass (SH8) have been lifted today.

Forecasters said the front brought a period of heavy rain to Westland from yesterday morning. And it was expected to continue until this afternoon.

Heavy rains were monitored until 3 pm in Westland, south of Otila.

The South Island was hit by the first heavy snowfall of the year earlier this month.

Rain, Wales, Snow later this week

According to MetService, if there is a strong or strong wind northwest in front of the front, followed by a strong or strong wind southwest, it will rain most of the South Island on Thursday.

From late Thursday to early Friday, 400-500 meters of snow could fall in parts of the south and east of the island, affecting high-altitude roads and passes.

However, no warning amount of snow was expected at this stage.

Meanwhile, a serious situation in northwestern Wales could affect parts of the Southland, Otago and Canterbury Plateaus on Thursday.

On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the strict confidence in the southeastern part of Southland, as well as Crusa and Dunedin, from western Wales to southwestern Wales could be low.
