The Imo State Police Order said it had arrested one of the alleged killers of Ahmed Gulak, a former political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Gulak died on 30 May 2021 on his way to Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.

The suspect, Anosike Chimobi, 38, from Umuedo, Ahiazu Mbaise State Council area, revealed State Command police spokesman Micheal Abattam on Monday, June 27, that Chimaobi was arrested after being investigated by officers of the order.

Abattam added that the suspect has already confessed to the crime and will be charged in court.

Abattam explained that among those paraded were members of the gang that burned down the home of the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Professor George Obiozor.

According to the suspect, the late Gulak was chased from his hotel room to the place where he was killed around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala LGA, near the Sam Mbakwe airport road in Owerri.

Anosike spoke to journalists and said he was a commercial bus driver and not a member of the gang.

According to him, Gulak’s killers approached him to transport them in his vehicle, which he tried to resist, but later accepted when they “threatened to kill him”.

Anosike said he drove the gang members to the spot where they blocked Gulak’s vehicle, which was on its way to the airport, and killed him.

He said they shot the APC chief after he opposed the gunmen’s demand that he get out of the vehicle.
