eint Thomas will be Ineos Grenadiers’ team leader for this year’s Tour de France after his surprise Tour de Suisse victory.

The 2018 Tour de France winner has seen a revival in form this season and will bid for a second yellow jersey and derail Tadej Pogacar’s bid for a hat-trick of Tour de France titles.

Pogacar remains in Grand Tour form, but after his Swiss win, Thomas said a strong group of star riders was the best bet for Ineos Grenadiers to end that period of dominance.

There are a total of four British riders in the team’s lineup, including Adam Yates, Luke Rowe and Olympic mountain bike gold medalist Tom Pidcock. The team is completed by Dani Martinez, Jonathan Castroviejo, Filippo Ganna and Dylan van Baarle.

Announcing the roster, team principal Dave Brailsford said: “The competition is tougher than ever this year and that is great for the sport, the Tour and the fans.

“But we all know that anything can happen in cycling, especially during three weeks of hard racing in different terrains and weather conditions. This group of Grenadiers is the embodiment of everything Ineos stands for.

“They have the eagerness, accuracy and humor that we know are critical to success in the Tour and we can’t wait to race.”
