  • Ghislaine Maxwell will appeal to have her 20-year sentence overturned
  • She will claim that one of the jurors of her trial broke the law by calling his psychiatrist

Ghislaine Maxwell will launch her appeal this week to have her 20-year prison sentence for child trafficking overturned by alleging that one of the jurors who convicted her broke the law by calling his psychiatrist during the trial.

The 20,000-word appeal must be filed with the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York before the deadline on Tuesday.

The MoS has learned that the appeal – filed by Maxwell’s ‘pit bull’ attorney Arthur Aidala, who represented the disgraced movie magnate Harvey Weinstein – will focus on whether Juror 50 violated the judge’s orders not to discuss the case.

A source said: “The juror admitted that during deliberations he called his psychiatrist because he was so upset. This is clearly in violation of the judge’s order not to discuss the matter with anyone.

“It doesn’t matter that he called a medical professional. He clearly broke the rules and violated the jurors’ oath, which is a good reason to appeal.”

Juror 50, who identified himself as Scotty David, also failed to disclose that he was a victim of sexual assault, a fact he later said helped him “influence” other jurors during deliberations.

“Her lawyers will argue that Ms. Maxwell was not tried by 12 fair and impartial jurors,” the source added.
