FORMER Manchester United ace Gary Neville was redfaced after tapping Tory donors in an attempt to get them to hand over money to Labor – only for them to blow the whistle for party leaders.

The ex-England ace was “sidelined” at a business meeting in the north of the country, where he tried to pump bigwigs into Sir Keith Starmer‘s opposition.

But the long-lasting Tory donors reported his tin-shaking to northern Tory leaders after attending the Northwest event earlier this year.

One said: “He is in with Manchester business types considering his own business interests up there.

“At a recent event he did the rounds and said he was close to Keir.

“But as soon as he left, they reported the information to local Tory chiefs – he was well and truly caught.”

There is no suggestion that Mr. Neville did anything wrong.

Last year the Heaven sports pandit was forced to deny that he would stand Work in the next election after admitting to joining.

He appeared alongside Sir Keir Starmer at the Labor Party conference, where he said: “I want to keep doing the things I do locally in Greater Manchester.

“I have to say I feel politically motivated, but I think I can do just as much for the Labor Party that is here today as I do as an MP.

A Labor source confirmed that Mr Neville was attending events and “remains supportive”.

Mr Neville and the Labor Party made no comment.

The Tory party declined to comment.
