Erik ten Hag praises Alex Ferguson’s legacy of winning culture at Manchester United, saying it is the greatest influence the legendary manager has on the current side.

The current Red Devils manager appears to have a great relationship with the club legend, with Ferguson impressed by the work the Dutchman put in at Old Trafford early in his career.

The pair were recently spotted eating dinner together in Manchester, with the Scot sharing some of his wisdom with Ten Hag, who continues to compete on four fronts this season, with Sunday afternoon’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.

When asked what is the most relevant message he has received from Ferguson, Ten Hag said it was not one piece of advice, but just the example he set as United manager, that continues to influence the club.

‘He is by doing (no words),’ Ten Hag said Sky Sports. “I think he left a legacy and it is Manchester United stands for winning and a winning culture.

“I think he is such a great example to all of us, to humanity, but to all of us around and in Manchester United, he is such a great example and we hope we can make him proud on Sunday.”

Ten Hag and Ferguson were dining together earlier this week before United knocked Barcelona out of the Europa League with a smashing win at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Of the meeting, which warmed the hearts of Red Devils fans, said the former Ajax manager: ‘It’s huge. I always enjoy talking to people with a lot of knowledge and experience.

“He had to share it, he wants to help and support and you feel this is his club. He’s so dedicated. He wants us to do well. It was a great evening and I look forward to the next one with him.’

However, he ruled out a post-game meal with the Scotsman on Sunday whether Manchester United are League Cup winners or not.

“Unfortunately we don’t have time for that, because time is too short,” said Ten Hag about a Sunday evening meeting with Ferguson.

The former Manchester United manager won four League Cups during his epic reign at Old Trafford, with Ten Hag winning his first when he takes on Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United at 4.30pm on Sunday.
