ZM radio station has taken flak for editing a photo showing staff parked in a disabled parking lot in Dunedin on St. Patrick’s Day.
A popular radio station whose staff parked in a disabled parking lot to present a prize has acknowledged it was “not acceptable” but says it was due to safety concerns.
ZM uploaded a photo to his Instagram page on Friday, taken during a busy St. Patrick’s Day at Castle St, Dunedin.
The photo showed ZM’s Black Thunder – a roaming vehicle driven by staff handing out bargain prizes – atop markers for disabled parking spaces outside a University of Otago study centre.
After criticism, ZM removed the photo and uploaded an almost identical version with the disabled highlights Photoshopped out.

ZM Dunedin uploaded a photo showing them parked in a space designated for disabled people.
A spokesman for the station reports this Stuff they temporarily parked at the spot “due to security concerns”.
“While our team was looking for a parking space, several people saw our vehicle and began to surround it, including some who appeared to be intoxicated,” the spokesman said.
The team issued the call to “park in the disabled parking space from time to time, due to safety concerns for themselves and those around the vehicle”.

They were there for “less than two minutes”, during which they handed out a prize and took a picture of the winners, before leaving.
“Yet they know that parking there was unacceptable,” said the spokesperson.
The staff watched the situation and their giveaway process on the air to make sure it wouldn’t happen again, they said.
