Big bargain book sale opens

Christchurch’s big book sale is today and tomorrow.

The annual Libraries Big Bargain Book Sale at Pioneer Recreation and Sport Center has thousands of books on offer.

Christchurch City Council head of libraries and information Carolyn Robertson said the sale is a much-anticipated event for literature lovers.

“Every year we see a surge of interest as hundreds of people pour into the center and browse books for all ages and interests,” she said.

“This is an opportunity to purchase an array of material that has outlived its purpose in the library’s collection, with thousands of books, magazines, DVDs and CDs up for grabs at unbelievable deals.”

Sale prices start at $1 for young adult and children’s books and $3 for books, DVDs, CDs, and other audiovisual items for most adults.

The sale runs until 7 p.m. tonight and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
