Ever-open-minded former Coronation Street star Denise Welch stabbed her fellow Loose Women panelists on today’s program as she described the worst kiss of her life – and it took place in Weatherfield.
“I’ve only had one bad kissing experience yet,” she revealed. “But it was a fictional kissing experience.”
She then went on to describe how, when she shot a storyline in 1997 in which her character Natalie Horrocks had a fiery relationship with the gentle mechanic Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell). Kevin was married to Sally (Sally Dynevor) at the time in a partnership that was as close to rock solid as soap operas ever get, so the whole story was a big scandal.
During a scene in which Kevin and Natalie had to kiss, Denise had a few words of advice for her co-star, whom she described as ‘quite shy’.
“You have to kiss me so we can convince the audience that this was the most passionate affair that will leave you for Sally,” she said.
She then proceeded to demonstrate the kiss, gripped by her Loose Women co-stars, and her lips tightened tightly.
“It was a little kind of cat’s butt shape, like -” she demonstrated again, to great hilariousness in the studio.
Poor Michael Le Vell is probably at the travel agent as we speak, booking a vacation to somewhere no one has ever seen Loose Women or heard of Coronation Street.
Denise’s last words on the matter were hardly reassuring. “Sorry, Michael, I love you,” she said, but could not resist repeating one last time, “but it was a bit like kissing a cat’s bum.”
