We have nothing against Easter eggs here at Metro.co.uk, but with plain tasted almost 30 (!) of them in the name of the contentwe are well aware that they are a small the same after a while.
The stores have been full of them for months, and now they fill every shelf and even instead of real eggs!
We’re at the height of the Easter egg, folks, and it’s time to try something new…
We’ve already rounded up the best Easter gifts for people who just don’t like chocolate, but if you like sweet things, and just don’t want it hard on your teeth and egg shaped, then you’re in luck, because we’re obsessed with this range of alternative seasonal treats from The Bottled Baking Co.
Delicious new chocolates and candies are available, but the seasonal showstopper is a brilliant twist on the company’s signature product: baking ingredients packaged in a glass bottle, often with an extra treat on the side.
Fresh before the Easter holidays, Chief Baker Greg Fraser and his faithful son have come up with a brand new GIANT cookie mix (£10.99). It’s super easy to put together, but doesn’t skimp on size: one cookie can be broken into 22 slices, enough to keep all the visiting family happy, even if the whole clan is knocking on the door on Easter Sunday.
There’s also the Mini Egg Cookie Mix (£10.99), a Cookies and Creme Muffin Mix (£10.99) and the Baking mix of white chocolate and raspberries (£10.99) to tickle all kinds of sweet tooth.
This Leeds-based company is all about getting families to bake together. The central idea was born in 2016, when founder Greg was looking for new ways to cook delicious food with his son.
His then three-year-old was obsessed with baking boxes of supermarket cartoon brands, but the dullness of their finished products made Greg pull his hair out.
Greg suggested that father and son try baking from scratch, putting all their ingredients in a bottle to avoid mess and make things easier.
“Putting the ingredients in a bottle allowed us to talk about what went into the mix, and shaking it all out was a lot of fun!” he previously told the blog Don’t Buy Her Flowers.
The idea of ingredients conveniently arranged in a reusable bottle approached Greg and he started a business around it. Since then, The Bottled Baking Co. skyrocketed in popularity and sales more than doubled during the Covid pandemic, as families embraced home baking together.
All of the company’s goodies are still made in good old Yorkshire, which is only sensible as nowhere else in the UK knows so much about good home baking…
And all of Greg’s new recipes are put through one of the most intimidating tests in the food industry: they’re tasted by Greg’s little one, who has shockingly good taste.
New products are also distributed to everyone else on Greg’s street, making The Bottled Baking Co. becomes a real community business, full of warmth.
It’s all been the journey of a lifetime for Greg, whose bottle cakes have been named Gift of the Year. He’s worked with Coca-Cola and Spotify, and now his handiwork is available in some of the country’s most iconic department stores, including John Lewis, Selfridges and Fenwick.
But his son is always there to keep him grounded and make him laugh, as he previously noted, “My son often makes me laugh, some of the things he says are hilarious.”
Plus, we can all learn something from Greg’s chosen words to live by: “Stay Home, Eat Cake.”
Don’t mind if we do!
