Natasha Gouldsbury came in first in the girls’ under-20 division and fourth in the women’s open division.

Taranaki surfer Natasha Gouldsbury won the girls’ under-20 division of the Backdoor King and Queen of the Point event, held in Raglan this weekend.

Gouldsbury turned the heat up in the final five minutes and went on to claim victory with a total of 13.25 out of 20 points in two waves, beating Chloe Groube by 13.1 points.

Raglan surfers Alani Morse and Brie Bennett finished third and fourth respectively in the final, which was held on Sunday at Ruapuke Beach.

“In my head I went ‘I don’t want to be beaten by a 14-year-old,'” Gouldsbury said in an emailed press release.

“Chloe got that good one at the start and I knew she could have gotten more higher scores too so I had to get some good waves and that last wave, I thought Chloe was going to get because she had priority but I got it and thought ‘go big or go home’.”

Gouldsbury said she was “fired up to take the win” after getting some average results recently.

She also placed fourth in the women’s open division, which was held in Manu Bay on Saturday.
