CONVRGENCE is a post-apocalyptic VR survival shooter hitting Steam Early Access today.
Created by solo developer Monkey-With-a-Bomb, CONVRGENCE is a STALKER-style shooter with horror elements similar to In the beam And his upcoming sequel. Each expedition through the Chernokamensk Exclusion Zone plays out as a mystical artifact hunter in search of loot and takes place in a procedurally generated location. “Make sure you return to base before nightfall, because when night comes, the hunter becomes the hunted,” the description reads.
Along with a companion dog to help you in battle and gather supplies, CONVRGENCE lets you sell valuables and artifacts to buy new equipment. If you die, any unclaimed equipment will be lost in the Exclusion Zone. A wide arsenal of realistic, customizable weapons is also promised, while the online component will let you compete with others to become the 'ultimate fighter'.
For the early access launch, Monkey-With-a-Bomb states that CONVRGENCE will contain “over 15 hours of content”, with procedural generation ensuring you can keep playing. At full release, the developer plans to add “new locations, weapons, enemies, loot, quests, bosses, a shelter and vehicle leveling system and more.” As for a full release date, the studio states that it will take “approximately 1.5 years” to implement everything.
It's Monkey-With-a-Bomb's latest effort after that Paradox of hopea similar VR shooter that was scrapped after being hit by a notice of copyright infringement in August. Although it bears obvious similarities to its predecessor, CONVRGENCE introduces numerous changes and avoids the use of the Moscow subway setting.
CONVRGENCE achieved Steam Early Access today for $19.99 with a 15% launch discount. As for other platforms, the developer confirmed they plan to bring it to Quest “eventually” but state that won't happen anytime soon.
