Sweden and Finland on the verge of joining NATO after negotiations proceed

Finland and Sweden are ready to join the NATO military alliance after signing an agreement with Turkey.

Both countries applied for participation in response to Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine, overturning decades of foreign policy in the process.

Securing an agreement from Turkey was a major block of their desire, but negotiations created a breakthrough.

The three countries have signed a memorandum of understanding to “extend full support for threats to each other’s security.”

NATO leaders are meeting in Madrid to discuss how to overhaul the organization to deal with the new invasion from Russia.
