The remake of '80s classic Time Bandits has been hit by allegations of abuse on set, as Charlyne Yi claims they were 'physically assaulted multiple times'.
Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement are attached to the upcoming fantasy adventure remake, featuring Friends star Lisa Kudrow set to star.
Charlyne, 38, was cast as Judy for an episode of the time travel TV series Apple and Paramount, which shot in New Zealand in 2022.
The non-binary star, best known for their role in House, claimed they were 'forced to quit' the project and were 'gassed by colleagues'.
In their Instagram posts, Charlyne wrote: “I wasn't safe, supported or protected. I have been physically abused by an actor several times, but also psychologically abused.'
“They debated my life, throttled me, told me to feed my abuser's ego… that I had to submit to my abuser so he wouldn't physically attack me anymore,” they continued.
Charlyne, who did not name the abuser, also claimed they suffered back injuries as a result of the abuse while on set but were denied workers' compensation.
“They treated my body/mind/soul/life like it was disposable, which made me want to commit suicide, which I don't tend to think that way,” the Steven Universe actor said.
'I was forced to quit. They denied my workers' comp to support my recovery for my injured back and PTSD, which my insurance does not cover and should not cover. I want accountability and reparations.”
In a second post, Charlyne continued: 'My abuser pressed his body against me from behind, to the point that I had to dig my feet into the ground to maintain my position during rehearsals and filming.
'I tried to push him away. He pushed down harder and harder until I felt my lower back compressing, sending sharp pain throughout my body.”
They claimed their abuser brought them a jar of honey as a 'gift' after the incident, but continued to ridicule and taunt them, and physically attack them.
Charlyne, who will have a new attorney and agent, added that the trauma left them unable to sleep and suffering from hair loss and back pain.
They added that they were aware that if they complained they could be 'thrown out' and 'swept under the carpet'.
In a statement, Paramount Television Studios said: “The safety of our cast and crew is very important to us, and we take all concerns raised with us very seriously.
“At the time of the complaint, Paramount Television Studios conducted a full investigation into the allegations brought to our attention. While all investigations are confidential and we cannot comment on the details, additional steps have been taken to address concerns.”
A source claimed so Daily Mail Australia the alleged “physical attack” took place on camera during a scene where Charlyne was hit, bumped into and arrested.
They also refuted the claim that workers' compensation had not been paid, adding that the studio assisted with “proactive steps” but that the payment came from a third party.
Charlyne added that the production “prioritizes people's careers and a fictional world” rather than “protecting those who are most marginalized and targeted.”
