Microsoft announced Copilot+ PCs on May 20, 2024 at a special event at Microsoft Campus. The tech company said Copilot+ PCs are the fastest and most intelligent Windows PCs ever built. Copilot + PC means your PC is now AI (artificial intelligence) capable and comes with many AI features that other PCs don't have. Microsoft has announced several new features, all of which we are going to talk about here and now. Let's start.
Why Copilot + PC?
Microsoft said Copilot + PC can achieve levels of performance never seen before because it is “connected to and enhanced by the large language models (LLMs) running in our Azure Cloud in combination with small language models (SLMs).”
One of Microsoft's biggest claims at the event is that Copilot+ PC laptops will outperform Apple's MacBook Air 15-inch by up to 58% in sustained multithread performance. We won't go into too much detail about how Copilot+ PCs will perform. We'll talk about the AI features they can enable.

An AI feature that is very interesting and certainly sounds useful is Microsoft's 'Recall'. It often happens that we see something somewhere on our PC, be it a website or a folder, and then we forget where it was.
“With Recall, you can now access virtually everything you've seen or done on your PC in a way that resembles photographic memory. Copilot+ PCs organize information the way we do – based on relationships and associations unique to each of our individual experiences.” said Microsoft.
Basically, everything you do is saved in the form of continuous screenshots, which you can access later to remember things. Please note that Microsoft does not store this data in the cloud, but rather remains local on your PC to protect your privacy.
Cocreate: Windows now features AI-powered image generation
With Copilot + PC, applications such as Paint and Photos gain AI features that allow you to generate photos through brush strokes and texts.
Microsoft said: “Take photo editing and image creation to the next level. Restyle Image lets you reimagine your personal photos with a new style, combining image generation and photo editing in Photos. Use a preset style like Cyberpunk or Claymation to change the background, foreground or entire photo to create a whole new image.”

AI for apps you love
Copilot + PC also brings AI to all the applications you love to work on. You will see deep Adobe app integration with Copilot + PC. Apps like Photoshop, Lightroom and Express are available, while Illustrator, Premiere Pro and more are coming this summer.
DaVinci Resolve will also be included. Microsoft said: “Effortlessly apply visual effects to objects and people using NPU-accelerated Magic Mask in DaVinci Resolve Studio.”
For CapCut, Microsoft added: “Easily remove the background from any video clip with Auto Cutout on the NPU in CapCut. “
Cefabel
Microsoft said users can play games on their PCs using just the movement of their heads with Cephable, which will be available for Copilot+ PCs.
Liquid text
With LiquidText on Copilot+ PCs, Microsoft said users will be able to annotate documents smarter, using AI features that run entirely on the device via NPU. So your text data remains private only for you.

It is now possible to remix songs using AI on Copilot+ PCs. djay Pro is optimized to work with Windows AI and gives users the ability to mix songs with a new and higher quality version of NeuralMix.
Live subtitles
Whether you're watching something pre-recorded or live, you can use the Live Captions to understand what's being said. Live Captions translate audio consistently in real time across all your apps. There is currently support for more than 40 languages.
Windows Studio effects
With Windows Studio Effects you'll always look and sound your best. There's Portrait Light that automatically adjusts the image to improve perceived lighting in a dark environment or brighten the foreground pixels in a low-light environment. There are also new improvements to voice focus and portrait blur ensure you're always sharp.
Second pilot
Of course, there's Copilot, a powerful AI agent, just a tap away on keyboards with the new Copilot key. Copilot now has a full application experience for customers.
Microsoft said: “Copilot puts the most advanced AI models at your fingertips. In the coming weeks, get access to the latest models, including GPT-4o, from our partners at OpenAI so you can make voice conversations that feel more natural.”
