AN EXPERT has revealed a simple hack that can banish spiders from your home for just £1.45 – and you probably already have it in your cupboard.
With the weather getting warmer spiders are on their way, invading the homes of Britain.
But if the thought of arachnids crawling through your rooms makes you panic, help is at hand.
Jess Steele, heating technology expert at designer radiator specialist BestHeating, has unveiled the low-cost product available in supermarkets which can help keep your home spider-free all summer long.
She recommends using peppermint oil to put an end to your spider worries.
Jess said: “Peppermint oil has a strong smell and spiders are sensitive to it, making it an effective yet cheap method to eliminate the worry of finding creepy crawlies throughout the house, without causing damage.”
She recommends combining peppermint oil with water to make a spray and spraying it on the inside of curtains, windowsills and in the corners of carpets.
It can even be used as a diffuser to keep spiders out of the world's busiest rooms house. Or used to soak cotton swabs before placing them in areas where spiders are common.
Jess added: “Spiders smell with their legs, which is why strong scents work well. For those with persistent problems, try a mixture of scents such as citrus peels, herbs and spices such as mint and cinnamon, and even use vinegar in a spray, as these are fantastic and natural ways to keep your home arachnid-free without spending a lot of money .
If you don't already have peppermint at home (it can be used as a medicine or in cooking), you can buy the extract for just £1.45 in Asda's cooking section or for a similar price in another supermarket.
You can find an oil that is stronger in drugstores and health food stores. For example, you can buy a 10ml oil for €4.99 from Superdrug.
Keeping troublesome pests under control doesn't have to concern you wallet and there are plenty of household items that can help you rid your home of unwanted intruders.
For example, cotton balls soaked in vinegar can be used for removal flies from your home, for only €2.50.
Planting lavender, marigolds and even strongly scented herbs in your garden can also serve as a permanent solution to batting flies away.

Keep pests out all summer long
Hornets and wasps – hate the smell of peppermint oil, so spraying this liberally around your patio or balcony can help keep them at bay.
Moths – acidic white household vinegar is effective for deterring moths. Soak a paper towel in vinegar and leave it in your wardrobe as a deterrent.
Flying ants – herbs and spices such as cinnamon, mint, chili pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cloves or garlic act as a deterrent.
Mosquitoes – Plants, herbs and essential oil scents can help deter mosquitoes inside and out. Try eucalyptus, lavender and lemongrass.
