It was the most beneficial and unexpected moment in Emmerdale recently when a hard man Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) decided to lets his son Isaac (Bobby Dunsmoir) have the lamb he so desperately wanted.

The orphaned lamb Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) had gone to look at a neighboring farm and did not expect it to survive.

It was a sad situation, but vet Vanessa and farmer's wife Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) were realistic about it the harsh reality of these things. For Isaac, who was with Moira, he saw a very cute little creature who needed a friend.

Later, Moira was shocked to discover that Cain had given in to Isaac's plea and that they had gone to get the lamb and brought it back to Butlers. It even had a name: Minty. Yes, it is named after the sauce traditionally served with roast lamb.

It looks like Isaac has taken it upon himself to take care of the lamb, as we saw in Tuesday's episode (May 21) looking bigger and healthier than before. It was also inside the house, which Moira found less than ideal as she insisted the lambs should be out in the fields.

Either in the fields, or under a nice layer of mashed potatoes, because Moira had prepared a delicious shepherd's pie for lunch. Even Cain thought that was a bit harsh and Isaac was furious. “You're eating Minty's friend!” he complained.

“It's not Minty, is it? He's there,” Moira said, trying to get her son to come eat his lunch. The likely future vegetarian was having none of it. “You want to make Minty a citizen! I hate you,” he told her.

Moira blamed Cain, but he was on Team Minty. “I'm not the one serving lamb,” he noted.

Later, Cain and Moira found Isaac and Minty hiding in a shed. Moira tried to convince him again that lambs are happier in the meadow.

“Until you kill them,” Isaac said, unconvinced by Moira's argument that sheep and cows eventually became part of the food chain because, as he insisted, “Minty's family.”

Once again, Cain stepped up for Team Minty and told Isaac that no one would hurt his lamb. 'You have our word. It's yours,” he said, tickling the lamb's chin (cute). 'We respect that.'

Moira tried to get Isaac inside one last time and Minty to play with his friends. “I don't trust you,” he said. “You get to eat him.”

As the boy and the lamb wandered away, Cain told Moira that he thought Isaac would tire of the lamb soon enough, but she wasn't so sure and insisted, “He'll have to go.”
