Sideshow, Janus Films Take Leos Carax's It's Not Me for North America

Sideshow and Janus Films have brought and acquired another buzzing title from Cannes It's not me by French author Leo Carax (sacred engines, Annet) for North America.

An autobiographical collage of old and new footage, referencing everything from silent films and Hollywood classics from the Golden Age to scenes from his own work and personal home videos. It's not me is a direct tribute to the late, great Jean-Luc Godard in his deconstruction of cinematic language and the betrayal of autofiction.

Commenting on his cinematic 'self-portrait', Carax said: 'Of course many painters have made theirs. I tried to make mine without a mirror. A self-portrait seen from behind. Or, as in a dream from many years ago: How come I can see myself in that mirror even though my eyes are closed? – and when I look in the mirror, my eyes are indeed closed.

It's not me debuted in the sidebar of the Cannes Premiere. It is a co-production of CG Cinéma, Théo Films and Arte France Cinéma, made with the collaboration of Arte France, Chanel and Les Films du Losange. Les Films du Losange sells the film worldwide and distributes it in France.

“Leos Carax is one of the visionary filmmakers of our time,” Sideshow and Janus Films said in a statement. “He created one of the most exciting and inventive films of the entire festival that exceeded our already high expectations.”

The deal for It's not me was negotiated by Alice Lesort for Les Films du Losange on behalf of the filmmakers at Sideshow and Janus Films.

Sideshow and Janus have had a busy Cannes and also secured Payal Kapadia's well-received competition title Everything we imagine as light; Gint Zilbalodis' 3D animated eco-fable Current, shown in Un Certain Regard; and that of Alain Guiraudie strange crime thriller Misericordiaanother title in the Cannes premiere.
