The Warehouse has removed a listing from its site that appeared to include photos of marijuana plants, even though it says it is “not sure” what type of plants they are.
The ad was noticed by shoppers on Monday evening.
Polyester plant mesh was advertised, from a supplier in China.
But the four photos of plants included all looked like marijuana.
“This product is sold through a third party retailer so we are unsure what type of plants are shown in the images, but we have now removed this product from our website,” a spokesperson for The Warehouse said.
Marketing commentator Vaughn Davis said there was “no way” this could have been a conscious decision by The Warehouse.
He said it would either have been an honest mistake or someone had interfered in the design phase.
The Warehouse said it had thousands of products on its website that come from partnerships with other brands and retailers.
They are shipped directly from the supplier.
“This product is sold through one of our third-party suppliers via Group Marketplace on The Warehouse website. We have removed the product from sale while the supplier updates their sample photos as they were not appropriate for our site.”
