Jake Paul says against his boxing match Mike Tyson will go ahead as planned and insist nothing has changed after the ring legend required medical attention this weekend.
Social media sensation Paul will take on former heavyweight champion Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Texas on July 20 in a fight that will stream worldwide on Netflix.
There were concerns about Tyson after reports that he needed emergency medical attention on board a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday. In Touch Weekly reported that an urgent message was sent through the Tannoy system, asking if there was a doctor on board due to the 'medical emergency'.
Tyson's representatives have since released a statement explaining that the 57-year-old is “doing great.”
With their fight less than two months away, Paul has downplayed the severity of the incident. He wrote on X: 'You like to make things up before you know the facts about clicks/likes. Nothing has changed.'
Tyson's team confirmed he needed medical attention after feeling sick due to what they described as a flare-up of a stomach ulcer.
“Thankfully, Mr. Tyson is doing well,” the statement said. 'He became nauseous and dizzy due to a flare-up of a stomach ulcer 30 minutes before landing.
“He is grateful for the medical staff who were there to help him. However, it is a false report that his medical assistance caused the flight delay. This two-hour delay was due to a problem with the aircraft's air conditioning.'
Tyson will be 58 by the time the fight takes place, with the 31-year age gap between him and Paul being a major talking point leading into the fight.
Tyson officially retired from boxing in 2005 after losing three of his last four fights. He returned to the ring in 2020 for a lucrative exhibition fight with fellow ring legend Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
His summer showdown with Paul will be fought under professional boxing rules, meaning the result of the fight will appear in both men's official records.
Paul is 9-1 in professional boxing, having won his last three fights since losing to Tommy Fury last year.
