UK weather forecast predicts wettest summer in 100 years | Weather | News

Britain looks set to be hit by its wettest summer in more than 100 years, with forecasters predicting 50 days of rain could fall over the next three months.

According to The Sunthe With office has informed the government and transport chiefs so they can prepare for wet conditions and traffic over the holidays.

If it rains for 50 days, it would be the wettest summer since 1912, when Britain was hit by rain for 55 summer days.

Last year there was reportedly 40 days of rain during the summer. To count towards the number of rainy days, there must be more than 2.5 mm or more in a 24-hour period.

The Sun says forecasters believe the wet summer outlook is due to low-pressure systems.

The With office Long-range forecasts said: “The likelihood of a wetter than average period is greater than a drier than average period.

“Rainfall at this time of year carries a greater risk of localized heavy downpours and thunderstorms.”

The soggy outlook comes after much of Britain was hit by wet weather over the Bank Holiday weekend.

According to the RAC, more than 20 million leisure trips were made this weekend. This is the highest since Covid.

Roads will also be slow today as many people are expected to miss their holidays due to bad weather.

Forecaster WXCharts predicts the end of the week will be wet, with weather maps gradually turning blue this week.
