ARSENAL fans have called for Ethan Nwaneri to be “promoted” to the first team after seeing his goalscoring exploits for England Under-17s.
The Gunners' stardom began in the Three Lions final UEFA European Under-17 Group D match with Spain on Monday evening.
Greg Lincoln's troops bounced back from the blows they received Portugal last week with a 3-1 victory over the Spaniards.
Nwaneri, 17, scored the most goals and capped a stunning counter-attack with a slick finish outside the boot.
And upon his goal, fans called for him to become a regular Mikel Arteta's first-team squad.
One of the Emiratis stalwarts wrote on X: “He is a star.”
Another said: “This kid needs to play more for the serious talent in our first team.”
And another said: “He needs to be promoted to the first team next one season and receive League cup and asked FA Cup games.”
One commented: “He's making ESR/Vieira minutes next one season.”
Another said: “I keep saying it and I'm not even joking. This boy is very good enough to play for our first team now.”
Nwaneri is no stranger to the vicinity Arsenal's first-team stars got a handful of appearances from Arteta.
He became the youngest ever Premier League player in September 2022 when he made his first-team debut Arsenal's 3-0 win Brentford 15 years old.
His last first-team appearance came in the 6–0 defeat of the North Londoners West Ham in February.
Nwaneri signed his first professional contract with Arsenal in March, saying: “I didn't have to think about it; this is my family and it feels like home here!”
He added: “I am very happy to have finally reached this stage after all the hard work over so many years.
“It's a proud moment for me and my family to finally be here, so I'm happy and ready to keep working.
“It was the dream to reach this podium. I've always thought about when this day would come and I've looked forward to it.
“So I'm glad it's finally here.”
