Israeli tanks reached the center of Rafah for the first time on Tuesday, witnesses said, after three weeks of a ground operation in the southern Gaza City that has drawn global condemnation.
The tanks were seen near the Al-Awda Mosque, a central landmark in Rafah, the witnesses told Reuters. The Israeli army said its forces continued to operate in the Rafah area without commenting on the reported advance towards the city center.
